The Children's Ombudsman acts as a spokesperson for children and young people's rights in Norway. The office's main task is to ensure that children's opinions are heard and that their interests are safeguarded in society. The children's ombudsman closely monitors the development of children's upbringing and works to promote measures that can help prevent problems among children and young people.

An important part of the Children's Ombudsman's work is the implementation of the Children's Barometer, which surveys children's opinions on various topics. In addition, they offer e-learning courses on children's rights, aimed at public administration, to increase awareness and knowledge of children's rights. The children's ombudsman also gets involved in matters that affect children's rights, including bullying and other challenges that children and young people may face.
