The EOS committee is the Storting's control committee for intelligence, surveillance and security services. The committee's main task is to carry out independent control of secret services such as the Police Security Service (PST), the Intelligence Service (E-tjenesten) and the National Security Agency (NSM). This includes supervision of the methods used for obtaining information, as well as the processing of consultation statements and statements on relevant matters.
In addition to the control function, the EOS committee prepares annual reports and special reports documenting their work and findings. The committee also participates in international cooperation related to security and surveillance, and offers information to complainants and whistleblowers. To promote debate and knowledge about current topics, they organize annual conferences that bring together experts and stakeholders. The EOS committee plays an important role in ensuring democratic control over intelligence services in Norway.
