IMDi, or the Integration and Diversity Directorate, is a professional directorate and national competence center with responsibility for the field of integration in Norway. The directorate's task is to implement the government's integration policy, with a focus on strengthening expertise on integration and diversity. IMDi works to ensure equal opportunities, rights and duties for all citizens, and has a particular responsibility for the settlement and qualification of refugees.
The Directorate collects and analyzes data on integration, and deals with current topics such as the living conditions of immigrant children. IMDi also engages in community debates about integration and offers resources and tools to municipalities and sector authorities. In addition, they manage grant schemes aimed at municipalities and voluntary organisations, and contribute to the development of integration policy through professional input. IMDi also acts as the professional authority for interpreting in the public sector.
