The National Police Directorate is a central authority subordinate to the Ministry of Justice and Emergency Preparedness in Norway. The Directorate is responsible for leading and coordinating the police in the country, as well as developing and implementing national policy for police services. This includes, among other things, work with crime prevention, preparedness and handling of serious incidents.

The Directorate also has an important role in ensuring that the police have the necessary resources and competence to carry out their tasks effectively. In addition to monitoring and evaluating the police's work, the National Police Directorate contributes to cooperation with other national and international actors within security and law enforcement.

Through its activities, the directorate works to maintain law and order, as well as safeguard citizens' safety and rights. This takes place in collaboration with local police districts and other relevant authorities.
