The Norwegian Institution for Human Rights is an independent body that is subject to the Storting. The institution aims to promote strong human rights protection for all, and works with a number of tasks related to human rights in Norway. This includes the preparation of guides for the investigation of human rights issues, as well as the publication of international recommendations to the Norwegian authorities.

In addition to this, the institution focuses on topics such as digital exclusion and barriers in public services. It is also involved in health care and legal security for inmates with mental health problems, and works actively to reduce isolation in prisons. The institution contributes with consultation statements and expert committee reports, and plays an important role in Norwegian human rights work.
