Nye väktshuset is a mental health service that offers treatment for mental disorders, drug addiction and addiction. Established in 1855, it is Norway's first state hospital for mental disorders, and thus has an important historical role in the development of Norwegian psychiatry. The building was erected with the efforts of the doctor Herman Wedel Major, who was a central figure in the creation of the institution.
