SSMM - The Center for Sexually Abused Men is a self-help organization that offers support and rehabilitation for men who have been exposed to sexual abuse in childhood or adolescence. The center is run with grants from Oslo municipality and the Ministry of Children and Equality, and is led by men who have experience of similar trauma. The organization functions as a supplement to the public aid system, and everyone involved is bound by confidentiality.
The offer includes one-to-one conversations, self-help groups and telephone support, as well as help when reporting abuse. The center emphasizes anonymity and security, and users are given the opportunity to decide what they want to share and at what pace. In addition, SSMM provides support to relatives and has a teaching program for professional groups and students who want to learn more about abuse issues.
