The joint organization (FO) is a trade union and professional association that represents approximately 31,000 members, including child welfare educators, social workers, foster carers and welfare scientists. The organisation's aim is to support members in salary negotiations and working conditions, as well as to offer courses and events for shop stewards. FO has developed a platform with resources and tools for shop stewards, which contribute to skills development and professional development.
In addition to the professional work, FO engages in political issues that affect working life, including collective bargaining policy, health and social policy, women's policy and equality policy. Over 80 per cent of the members are women, which reflects the organisation's focus on equality. FO also organizes conferences and specialist courses, as well as supports youth initiatives such as Operation Dagsverk and offers scholarships for further education. The organization has branches in all counties in Norway and is a member union of the National Organization (LO).
