The Forum for Environment and Development, also known as ForUM, was established in 1993 with the aim of monitoring the follow-up to the UN's Rio conference. The organization functions as a network for over 100 Norwegian organizations that work for sustainable development. ForUM is religiously and party politically independent, and its vision is to promote a democratic and peaceful world, characterized by fair distribution, solidarity, human rights and ecological sustainability.
The organization is active in several contexts, including by organizing Stand Up celebrations for climate and nature. It also focuses on financing for sustainable development and participates annually in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). In addition, ForUM engages in political debates, including questions related to parliamentary elections, in order to strengthen Norwegian civil society. Secretary-General Gina Ekholt leads the work to promote these matters.
