Geitmyra food culture center for children is a non-commercial foundation whose aim is to promote public health through enjoyment of food and healthy food. The center was established in 2011 at Geitmyra farm in Sagene, Oslo, following the initiative of chef and author Andreas Viestad. Here, teaching is offered to children and young people, with a focus on practical learning about cooking, sustainable meals and Sami food culture. The center has three teaching kitchens, an educational kitchen garden, as well as facilities such as a greenhouse and oven.
Geitmyra food culture center offers school education, leisure courses and open events, and has over 4,000 visitors from Oslo School each year. The center organizes special food parties, such as a mutton cabbage festival and a potato festival, to engage children and families in cooking and food traditions. The teaching also integrates practical subjects such as maths, which gives a holistic approach to learning about food and health.
