The Norwegian Union of General Workers, also known as Norsk Arbeidsmandsforbund, was founded in 1895 by construction workers. The union currently has around 36,000 members and its main aim is to organize workers and create collective agreements to ensure good wages and working conditions.
The union fights for workers' rights and interests, and offers a number of member benefits. Courses and activities are organized for shop stewards, with a focus on topics such as wages, collective agreements, as well as laws and negotiations. In addition, the union gets involved in current issues such as social dumping and gathers shop stewards for large gatherings to exchange experiences.
The Norwegian Workers' Union has branches all over the country, including Longyearbyen, which contributes to a broad representation of members from various industries. Through its work, the union seeks to strengthen the position of employees in Norwegian working life.
