The European Wergeland Center (EWC) is a resource center that works with education within intercultural understanding, human rights and democratic citizenship. The center was established in 2008 by the Council of Europe and Norway, and aims to promote a culture of democracy and human rights in the education sector. EWC offers a joint master's program in collaboration with the University of Athens, as well as various activities such as training, policy development and expert groups.

The center is open and free of charge to all member states of the Council of Europe, which today includes 46 nations. EWC also has field staff in Ukraine, Greece and Bosnia-Herzegovina, which underlines the centre's commitment to strengthening education and democratic values in different contexts. Through its activities, EWC seeks to contribute to a better understanding of human rights and intercultural dialogue in the education systems of the member countries.
