Tømrer og Byggfagforeningen was founded in 1885 with the aim of organizing craftsmen within the construction industry. The association represents a number of professional groups, including carpenters, joiners, roofers, plumbers, glaziers and fitters. In 1994, Stiftelsen Byggfag was established to manage funds from the sale of holiday homes, and in 2005 the Stockmann's Hammer Prize was established to promote freedom of expression in the industry.
The association offers activities and courses for its members, and is actively involved in chord measurement. With a quota adopted by the Annual Meeting, the membership fee is currently 1.8% of gross salary. Tømrer and Byggfagforeningen combine old traditions with a forward-looking perspective to safeguard the interests of their members.
