Nyskolen is a homework-free primary school that offers a mix of ages in the classes, which promotes cooperation and social learning among the students. The school has an interdisciplinary focus, and uses project work through the Heureka programme. This gives the students the opportunity to explore different subject areas in context, and develop a holistic understanding of the topics being treated.
The school places great emphasis on democracy and democratic participation, and has implemented several initiatives to promote good relations between staff and pupils. Nyskolen is a Dembra school, which focuses on learning responsibility and preventing bullying. Collaborative projects are also organized with democratic schools in the Czech Republic, as well as information meetings for new applicants. The celebration of 17 May has a special focus on the constitution and democracy, which underlines the school's commitment to promoting democratic values.
