Vor Frue Hospital is Oslo's first Catholic hospital since the Reformation and was founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1883. The hospital started its operations in a rented wooden villa, but experienced rapid growth which led to the construction of a brick building in 1896. The new building had a capacity for twelve patients and included an operating theatre, which was an important milestone in the hospital's development.
The hospital has played a significant role in the development of hospital operations in Oslo. In later years, Vor Frue Hospital merged with Lovisenberg Diakonale Sykehus, which has contributed to strengthening health services in the region. The hospital's history and development reflect a long tradition within the healthcare system, and it has been an important institution for patient care in Oslo.
