The Norwegian Theater and Orchestra Association (NTO) is an interest and employer organization that represents professional, publicly supported businesses in music and the performing arts. The association has 50 members, including programming and producing theatres, stages, orchestras, music ensembles and choirs, as well as other related businesses. NTO works to promote cultural and aesthetic competence, particularly in schools, and actively participates in the development of policies that affect culture and education.
The association is also known for arranging competence development and seminars for its members, as well as for awarding the Hedda prize and organizing the Hedda days, which honor theater art. NTO engages in Nordic and international networks and works for equality for people with disabilities. In addition, they offer tutors for boycotts in unacceptable situations and provide support to Østfold Internasjonale Teater, as well as maintaining operating grants for various cultural projects.
