Theater of Cruelty, also known as the Theater of Cruelty, is a Norwegian theater company established in 1992 by Lars Øyno. The theater specializes in productions that explore cruelty and deep, often challenging themes. Through a combination of classical and modern pieces, as well as experimental performances, they engage the audience with thought-provoking stories and an atmosphere characterized by intensity and reflection.
The theater also acts as a platform for guest performances from various theater companies, which contributes to a varied programme. Focusing on the human body as a dramatic medium, Theater of Cruelty has produced over 30 performances and achieved international recognition, with performances in several countries, including Japan, India, and the United States. The theatre's work is inspired by Antonin Artaud's theories about anatomical theatre, and they seek to awaken the inherent life force found in nature.
