The Norske Travselskap was founded in 1875 and is Norway's oldest organized sport. The organization has a structure that consists of 10 trotting associations and 156 trotting teams, which are distributed throughout the country. The central administration is responsible for organizing the business within trotting in accordance with guidelines from the democratically elected board. The sport of trotting is subject to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food at national level.
As a voluntary organisation, Det Norske Travselskap focuses on creating a social and pleasant environment for both athletes and enthusiasts. Activities are offered for both two-legged and four-legged friends of all ages, and there are training facilities available all over Norway. Members get access to good benefits, both at central and local level, as well as the opportunity to become a horse owner. The organization also emphasizes horse welfare and breeding, and carries out active organizational work with associations throughout the country.
