MAV, or the Friends of Akerselva Environmental Association, is a non-profit organization whose aim is to preserve and further develop the natural environment along the Akerselva River. The association focuses on stimulating interest in the river and its surroundings, and offers a range of activities such as lectures on biodiversity, local history walks and guided member tours. One of their exhibitions, "Living waterways from Marka to the Fjord", highlights the importance of the waterways in Oslo.
The organization works to secure Akerselva and the river valley as a blue-green lung, with a continuous park belt that includes good walking paths and footpaths. MAV also aims to safeguard important views and sight corridors, as well as to secure cultural and industrial monuments in the area. In addition, they are working to open up closed river sections and side streams, and for new buildings to be placed at an appropriate distance from the river.
