The Norwegian Music Council (NMR) is a voluntary organization that functions as a network and training organization for music life in Norway. The organization works to promote better framework conditions for its member organizations and manages public grants for voluntary music life. NMR offers resources to local music and cultural councils, and is involved in thousands of music and cultural organizations across the country.
The county music councils function as regional links in NMR's structure, and there are approximately 100 local music councils and cultural networks associated with the organisation. NMR has also been a pioneer in the work to improve music rooms for rehearsal and performance, which has resulted in the development of the world's first standard for acoustic criteria for rooms and rooms for music practice (NS8178). In Møllergata 39, NMR has established an office community together with several of its member organisations.
