Oslo Music Council was founded in 1977 as a party-politically neutral cooperative body for musical activities in Oslo. The organisation's aim is to strengthen Oslo's music life and support musicians through various measures. It functions as a cultural cooperation body for county-wide organizations and institutions involved in music, and focuses on training, education, information, political activity and communication within the music area.
The organization offers grants to choirs, bands and orchestras, and supports voluntary music life with concert support. In addition, Oslo Music Council organizes summer activities for member organisations. They have also received the Balansmarket, which recognizes their work for equality in the music field. Through these activities, Oslo Music Council contributes to creating better conditions and arenas for musical development in the region.
