The Press' Professional Committee (PFU) is a self-judgment scheme established by the Norwegian Press Association in 1991. The committee's main purpose is to promote ethical and professional standards in the Norwegian media. The PFU processes complaints against the media and assesses these in accordance with the guidelines in the Vær Varsom poster (VVP).
The organization offers information on complaints procedures and has a database known as the PFU base, which provides an overview of processed cases. The PFU publishes conclusions from its proceedings and provides statistics on convictions and the number of cases that have been subject to assessment. In addition, PFU informs about current issues and meetings, which helps to keep the media accountable for their ethical obligations.
