The Salvation Army Prison Ministry has been active in Oslo since 1920 and offers a range of services to inmates. The organization visits inmates in the cell and provides conversation, spiritual care, advice and guidance. In addition, they organize church services and concerts, which give inmates the opportunity to participate in spiritual activities.
On release, the Salvation Army offers practical help and support to ease the transition back into society. They also have a special focus on follow-up of foreign inmates through the "Safe Way Home" programme. The organization advises victims of human trafficking and works to reduce recidivism. Furthermore, the inmates are helped to return to work or education through measures such as open parole.
