Svanholmen Kanvas kindergarten is located in Sandnes and has a capacity for 89 children, organized in fixed groups. The kindergarten offers a varied outdoor area with bushes, trees, paths and rough terrain, which provides opportunities for play and exploration. In addition, three meals a day are served, including a hot meal, where the meals serve as a social arena for good conversations between the children.
The kindergarten also functions as a practice kindergarten for kindergarten teacher students from the University of Stavanger. The staff has a wide age range from 21 to 73 years, and 50% of the employees are trained kindergarten teachers, while 25% have a professional certificate. Svanholmen is part of Kanvas, Norway's largest kindergarten foundation with a non-profit purpose, which focuses on improving children's upbringing conditions and parents' everyday lives through quality kindergartens. At Kanvas, there is a strong focus on equality, diversity and tolerance, and at least half of the employees must have kindergarten teacher training, with regular professional refresher courses for all employees.
