Jæren Friluftsråd has worked to promote outdoor life in the region for over 75 years. The organization offers a number of activities and services that are aimed at both individuals and groups. The wilderness camp at Melsvatnet is one of the central activities, where three open-air huts have been built and fishing and campfire sites have been upgraded for visitors. Jæren Friluftsråd has also received a grant for universal design, which makes outdoor life more accessible to everyone.
In addition to the physical offerings, Jæren Friluftsråd organizes "Friluftsvenn Melsvatnet 2025", which includes twelve trips throughout the year. For those who want to register their fitness trips, the "Stikk UT!" app is available. The organization also offers free courses such as "Safe at Sea", which provides participants with knowledge about the ocean and waves. Through the collaboration with Trones School, a program for learning in the outdoors has been developed, which helps to counteract social isolation by promoting outdoor life and volunteering.
