The Sandnes Veterinary Institute is part of the Norwegian National Veterinary Institute and its main task is to contribute to preparedness and competence development related to health threats that affect animals, fish and humans. The institute works with diagnostics as a central part of health work, and focuses on research and reporting on animal diseases. This also includes international cooperation to deal with health threats across borders.
In addition to research and diagnostics, the Sandnes Veterinary Institute offers webinars that address specific health problems, such as wound problems in salmon. The institute also produces a podcast that deals with sustainable aquaculture and water treatment, which is relevant for both researchers and players in the industry. Emphasis is placed on preventing avian influenza outbreaks, which is an important part of the institute's work to ensure animal and public health.
