The Ruinparken in Sarpsborg is a park focusing on Østfold's cultural history, spanning from the Middle Ages to modern times. The park was founded in 1921 and is located at the ruins of St. Nikolas Church. Visitors can explore exhibitions about the medieval city of Borg, as well as experience impressive historical elements such as Sørnesur, a historic clock.
In addition to the cultural offerings, the Ruinparken offers interactive experiences, including the opportunity to explore Viking cities in Minecraft. Barnas Gård gives children the opportunity to meet animals, which can be an educational experience. The park also houses an open-air museum with 20 antique buildings, which provides an insight into the life and culture of earlier times. The Ruinparken has a national social responsibility through its cultural dissemination, and functions as an important arena for learning and experience.
