Glasergruva is located in Skien and is a renowned tourist attraction, marked as a Gea Norvegica Geopark site. The site has great historical significance, as it is known as the first iron mine in Norway with a certain date back to 1539. The area is protected as a technical cultural monument and bears the mark of its rich industrial history, with traces of horse-drawn carriages for ore hoisting and the remains of a coal mile and an old essa.
Visitors can explore Glaserstollen, which is part of the mine, and see a stone wall that is believed to have been a small hut or hut for the workers. The site is closely associated with Hans Glaser and the iron ore production in the Fossumskogene, which further emphasizes its importance in Norwegian industrial history. Glasergruva thus offers a unique opportunity to learn about both geology and industrial development in the region.
