The Qualification and Integration Unit (KIE) in Skien is a municipal unit that offers services within health and coping, with a focus on mental health and addiction. The unit is particularly aimed at children, young people and families, and has specific offers for these groups. KIE also has resources related to vaccination and infection control, as well as information about municipal rental housing and schemes from NAV and the Housing Bank.
KIE plays an important role in the work of integrating and qualifying new residents. The unit is responsible for the settlement of refugees in collaboration with the Norwegian Directorate for Integration and Diversity (IMDi). It runs an introductory program for newly settled refugees, and offers training in Norwegian and civics. In addition, KIE conducts national tests in Norwegian, civics and citizenship.
