Dronningåsen cooperative kindergarten is a parent-run kindergarten that opened in January 2000. It is located in Gausel, Hinna District in Stavanger, near Gandsfjorden and several hiking areas. The kindergarten has a Reggio Emilia-inspired pedagogy, where the rooms function as a third educator. This facilitates the children to explore their interests and learn through play with varied materials.
The kindergarten has several departments, including Brynjå, Sølje, Skjoldet, Perlå and Sverdet. Great emphasis is placed on encouraging the children to use the materials creatively, which promotes individual exploration and learning. Dronningåsen cooperative kindergarten is part of the coordinated kindergarten admissions in Stavanger, with an application deadline for main admissions on February 1st each year. Children are usually offered a place from August 15th, at the start of the new kindergarten year.
