Jernaldergården Besøkssenter is located at Ullandhaug in Stavanger and offers a unique experience of life in the older Iron Age. As an open-air museum, it gives visitors the opportunity to explore a reconstructed farm structure from the migration period, dated to approx. 350-550 AD The museum has three houses furnished with authentic equipment and household utensils, where live fire burns in the hearths, and gives an insight into the everyday life of people from this period.
The visitor center also has exhibitions that highlight archaeological finds from the farm, which were mapped and excavated in the 1960s. Here you can learn about society in development during the migration period, including the cultivation of various crops such as barley, oats, turnips and flax. In addition, the functions of the houses and the role of the housewife are presented, as well as the health conditions in this historical period, which gives a deeper understanding of life on the farm. Jernaldergården is particularly popular with families with children and is open all year round.
