Johannes Learning Center in Stavanger is an adult education school that offers education to newly arrived refugees and immigrants. The center focuses on Norwegian language and civics, and offers education for both children and adults. With a special department for adapted education, they create an inclusive learning environment that takes into account the participants' different backgrounds and needs. The participants come from a variety of languages and cultures, which enriches the learning experience.
The school offers courses in Norwegian and civics both during the day and in the evening, as well as online Norwegian courses with close follow-up of the participants. Johannes Learning Center is Stavanger's largest school in its field, with professional and experienced teachers who teach at all levels, from beginner A1 to advanced level B2. The center also has a full introductory program for participants with the right and obligation to do so, and the courses start four times a year. In addition, the center functions as a resource center for people over 18 years of age with significantly reduced vision and/or hearing.
As of May 2020, Johannes Learning Center has approximately 300 employees, divided into three areas with a high degree of autonomy and their own leaders. This allows the school to adapt teaching and support to the needs of the participants, and contributes to an effective and varied learning environment.
