Svolvær Music Association is an amateur band in the Janissary genre, founded in 1894. The band currently has approximately 35 active members and practices every Wednesday throughout the year. The association is open to new members, which gives more people the opportunity to participate in the music community in Svolvær.
The band regularly participates in activities such as the Nordavind band competition and Christmas concerts, and has also participated in the Norwegian National Championships for Janissary. In addition to local events, Svolvær Music Association has been on tours and competitions both at home and abroad. Frode Sollie acts as a hired conductor, and the band has had concerts with several soloists, including Mari Lerberg Fossum, Jardar Johansen and Brita Skare Malvik.
