The Arctic Economic Council (AEC) is an independent organization based in Tromsø, focusing on sustainable business development in the Arctic. The organization has members from different parts of the world and facilitates business activities between Arctic and non-Arctic states. The AEC works through specialized working groups that include experts from member states, and currently has five active groups covering areas such as maritime transport, investment and infrastructure, responsible resource development, connectivity, and the blue economy.
In addition to promoting cooperation and networking, the AEC serves as a platform for sharing knowledge and resources related to the Arctic. The organization publishes reports and analyses that highlight Arctic conditions and opportunities, and helps inform political and economic issues in the region. Through its work, the Arctic Economic Council seeks to strengthen the sustainable development of the Arctic as an important economic region.
