Tromsø Prison is an institution that offers both high and low security levels, with an ordinary capacity of 59 places. Of these, 39 places are dedicated to the high security ward, while 20 places are available for the low security ward. This allows for adaptation of the stay based on the individual inmate's needs and risk assessment.
The prison offers a wide range of health services and program activities, which include facilities for substance abuse control and addiction management. Emphasis is placed on rehabilitation through restorative processes, which are part of the total rehabilitation program. In addition, there are opportunities for leave and parole, which can contribute to a more gradual reintegration into society.
