St. Elisabethhjemmet is a Catholic congregation founded in 1842 in Silesia. The first group of sisters arrived in Norway in 1880, and since then several communities have been established in the country, including in Tromsø and Oslo. The name is inspired by Saint Elisabeth of Hungary, who is known for her commitment to the poor and sick.
The organization focuses on seeing the presence of God in all people, with special emphasis on those in need. St. Elisabeth's Hospital is part of this vision, where the emphasis is on caring for the sick and poor. In addition to hospital operations, St. Elisabethhjemmet combines education and practical tasks to support and develop both patients and staff.
