The Department of Language and Culture (ISK) is part of UiT The Arctic University of Norway and focuses on research, education and dissemination within language, literature, media and cultural studies. The department has approximately 76 permanent employees, and the total number of employees is around 150. There are approximately 500 students affiliated with the department, which offers education within 12 subject groups.
ISK has strong research communities within linguistics and linguistics, and the department is known for its project DIVVUN, which deals with Sami language technology in collaboration with Giellatekno. In addition, the department hosts the Center for Language, Brain and Learning (C-LaBL). Funding for the research comes from the Trond Mohn Research Foundation and UiT.
