Midtbyen kindergarten, established in 1837, is the country's oldest kindergarten and is located in the center of Trondheim. The kindergarten is located in a villa by the Nidelven River, surrounded by beautiful deciduous trees and a varied outdoor area. The building is designed in Art Nouveau style, characterized by stylistic features, and has undergone a total upgrade to maintain both functionality and aesthetics. The cozy atmosphere in the kindergarten gives a feeling of "historical rush in the walls".
The kindergarten has several departments, including Byborgen and Elvetårnet, which are located in the main building, as well as the Løkkan department, which was established in 1993. Løkkan is located in a small wooden house with a view of the fjord and offers a sheltered outdoor play area. Midtbyen kindergarten focuses on care and closeness to the children, and emphasizes creating a safe and stimulating environment for the youngest. There is a short distance between the different departments, which provides opportunities for cooperation and interaction.
