Gunnerus Library is the oldest scientific library in Norway, established in 1768. The library has an extensive collection that includes historical archives, pictures, books, manuscripts and maps, making it an important resource for research and learning. In addition to the traditional book collections, the library offers modern facilities such as group rooms and reading areas, as well as access to microfilm and PCs for visitors.
The library is also active in disseminating knowledge through various events. Lectures, courses in genealogy and local history, seminars and exhibitions are arranged, which provide opportunities for both learning and community engagement. The Knudtzon Hall, part of the library premises, can be visited by appointment, and it is possible to follow live updates of visitors and vacancies, which contributes to a better experience for users.
