Nidaros Cathedral Restoration Workshop, known as Nidaros Domkirkes Restaureringsarbeider (NDR), was established in 1869 with the aim of rebuilding Nidaros Cathedral, which had been partially destroyed after several fires in the Middle Ages. The cathedral, which is St. Olav's burial church and Norway's national shrine, has significant historical and cultural value. Through 150 years of continuous building activity, Bygghytta at Nidaros Cathedral has developed a unique expertise in various crafts, including lead glass, plaster, masonry, blacksmithing, carpentry and stone.

In addition to the restoration work, the Nidaros Cathedral serves as an important pilgrimage destination with historical significance. NDR also organizes pilgrimages and themed meetings, and has exhibitions such as "Ladies, animals and devils". The building hut is an integral part of the project and contributes to building archaeological investigations, registration and planning of new restoration projects. In December 2020, the building hut was recognized by UNESCO and was placed on the list of good conservation practices.
