Elgsethytta is a tourist cabin and restaurant located in Bymarka, more specifically in Bynesmarka between Bosbergheia and Elsetheia. The cabin was opened in 1958 and was originally owned by Trondhjems Skiklubb until 1974, when ownership was transferred to Trondheim Municipality. Since 2003, the operation has been led by Anne Valseth, before Hilde Leraand took over in 2022.
As a popular hiking destination, Elgsethytta offers great hiking opportunities all year round, with easy access for families with children thanks to the road leading to the cabin, although it is closed to traffic. The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere and serves homemade dishes, including specialties such as sour cream porridge and cured meats on selected days. Elgsethytta gives visitors a mountain feeling close to the city and is ideal for a break after hiking, with a short distance to Storheia, which is the highest peak in Bymarka. It is also possible to rent the cabin for parties.
