Salamandernatten is an art gallery in Trondheim that houses the impressive sculpture group of the same name, created by the artist Kjell Erik Killi Olsen. This sculpture group was first presented at the São Paulo Biennale in Brazil in 1989 and consists of 72 sculptures, each of which is over 3 meters high. One of the most notable elements of the work is a sculpture of a woman nursing a salamander, which adds to the work's unique character.
The gallery has a special atmosphere, characterized by light streaming in from a narrow slit in the ceiling, which gives a dramatic effect to the large sculptures. Salamandernatten is also linked to important themes such as the preservation of the rainforest and increased attention to deforestation, which gives a deeper meaning to the artwork. After being stored for 16 years, the sculpture group is now a permanent part of the exhibition in Trondheim.
