🌅 Lofoten: workation by the sea — rorbu, internet, sunsets without crowds

The archipelago is the perfect setting for a short ‘working holiday’: Zoom during the day, soft light over the peaks and the sound of waves in the evening. This guide contains only practical information: where to stay for 7–10 days in a rorbu with decent Wi-Fi, how to get there after work from Bodo (speedboat, ferry, short flights) and which sunset spots can be reached in an hour or two without crowds. Everything is detailed and includes links so you can plan your route and make reservations right away.

🏠 Where to rent a rorbu with fast internet for 7–10 days? [Lock: Lofoten]

  • Svinøya Rorbuer (Svolvaer). Free Wi-Fi is available in all cabins, plus there are restaurants and infrastructure on site — convenient for basing yourself near the ‘capital’ of the archipelago.
  • Anker Brygge (Lamholmen, SvolvĂŚr). Rorbu suites with living room/kitchen, wireless access, conference rooms for meetings — good if you need private calls/briefings.
  • Hattvika Lodge (Ballstad). Modern cottages; guests note ‘fast enough Wi-Fi’ for video calls and streaming.
  • Nusfjord Arctic Resort (FlĂĽstad). A historic resort village with free WiFi and conference facilities — an atmospheric option in the middle of the archipelago.

If you need a co-working space nearby, check out Lofoten Cowork in the centre of Svolvær — flexible short-term rentals and meeting rooms are available when the rorbu is noisy.

Checklist when booking: ask the reception for a recent screenshot of the speed test; check the location of the router; choose a layout with a separate living room/table 120–140 cm — this makes it easier to separate ‘work and rest’.

⛴ How to get there after work: ferries/flights from Bodø? [Summer]

1) Bodø → Svolvær express boat (NEX-2). Convenient evening service: in low season, departs at 18:00, on Sundays — at 19:00; journey time ~3 hours 25 minutes. Tickets can be purchased through Reis Nordland (the boat does not have a car deck).

2) Bodø → Moskenes ferry (car/foot). There are evening departures in summer; the route is operated by Torghatten Nord. Foot passengers travel free of charge, but it is best to book in advance for cars, especially during peak times. Check the carrier's website and the Guide to Lofoten for current slots and bookings.

3) By plane (Widerøe). Frequent short flights to Leknes (LKN) and SvolvÌr (SVJ), flight time ~30 minutes; evening slots depend on the day. Check the Widerøe fare calendar and aggregators.

The Visit Lofoten website is handy, with links to all timetables (Reis Nordland, Torghatten) — it's a good idea to bookmark it.

🌇 Where can I find sunset spots without crowds within 1–2 hours after 6 p.m.?

  • Linken (SvolvĂŚr). Marked trail ‘from the centre’; a round trip takes about an hour, and the group is small. An excellent ‘warm-up’ with a view of the harbour and the islands.
  • Tjeldbergtind (between SvolvĂŚr and Kabelvog). A classic ‘after work’ spot: usually a 45–60 minute climb and a ~30 minute descent; The viewing platforms catch the soft light, and there are fewer crowds than at the ‘iconic’ spots.
  • The old coastal road Haukland ↔ Uttakleiv. A flat trail along the sea, 4 km / 1–1.5 hours. Perfect if you want to watch the sunset on the beach without climbing.
  • Hov (Gimsøy). Beaches and low hills for the midnight sun — the best view to the north, with significantly fewer people than at Haukland/Uttakleiv.

From late May to mid-July, there are ‘white nights’ (midnight sun), so the ‘sunset’ light lasts for hours — feel free to go out after 6 p.m.

The formula is simple: stay in a rorbu with confirmed Wi-Fi (Svinøya/Anker/Hattvika/Nusfjord), keep Lofoten Cowork handy in case of intense phone calls, and plan ‘short’ views for the evening — Linken, Tjeldbergtind, the Haukland–Uttakleiv coastal trail, or the quiet beaches of Gimsøy. From Bodo, it's convenient to leave at 6 p.m. by speedboat or catch the evening ferry/flight — choose what suits your plans.

Share your favourite spots and actual speed measurements in the comments — we'll put together the perfect workation map for the archipelago.
