🎉 Stress-free Fadder Week: how to choose activities and not "drop out"
🧩 How fadderuke works
Fadderuke is an orientation week at Norwegian universities (UiO, UiB, NTNU, HVL, etc.) when first-year students are divided into buddy groups.
The goals of the week are to
● to familiarise students with the campus and each other,
● to give them a social start and a sense of belonging,
● to introduce clubs, societies and services.
📌 But participation is not 100% mandatory — you have the right to choose only those events that you feel comfortable with.
🗺️ Map of options
Fadderuke includes a wide variety of activities:
● 🎤 concerts and parties,
● 🎲 board games, quizzes, book clubs,
● 🏞️ walks, city tours,
● 🏐 Sports and team games.
👉 For introverts, it is ideal to combine 1–2 large events with more relaxed gatherings.
🛡️ Safety and boundaries
It is important to remember:
● ❌ You are not obliged to participate in all events.
● ✅ you can leave early or choose alcohol-free activities,
● ⚠️ Respect your own boundaries and let your buddy leaders know if you need a break.
📌 Tip: think about your "exit strategies" in advance (e.g., "I'm only staying until 10 p.m." or "I reserve the right to leave").
🧑⚕️ Samskipnad support
Student Samskipnadas (SiO, Sammen, Sit) offer:
● psychological support,
● counselling on stress and adaptation,
● social groups for international students.
Don't be afraid to reach out — many people feel stressed at the beginning.

📌 If you notice several symptoms — take a break and reach out to your buddy group or student welfare organisation.
Fadderuke is not a test of extroversion – it's an incredible opportunity to adapt! Finding your balance is so important for introverts! Choose the right formats, listen to yourself and make the most of the amazing support of Samskipnad.
📌 Here's a great tip: make a plan in advance and keep your buddy leader close by so that Fadder week is a joyful experience rather than a stressful one.
