✨ Glass Igloos Norway 2025: Watch the Northern Lights 🌌
A transparent roof, a warm blanket and the dance of green ribbons outside the window — what could be better than spending the night in a glass igloo? It's like a home cinema experience, but even better because you can see the Northern Lights! Finland came up with the brilliant format, and Norway brought it to aesthetic perfection: the domes stand on secluded headlands, equipped with heated floors, and inside there is a king-size bed and a coffee station. We had the privilege of visiting all the active sites in the winter and spring of 2025, where we compared the transparency of the panels, the level of condensation and the quality of the dinner. This allowed us to select the 10 best locations for an unforgettable romantic or family Aurora experience.
Check out our 10 frequently asked questions below for all the info you need: where to find the brightest lights, when the season is, how to save 15%, what camera settings you'll need, and what to do if it's cloudy. Save the guide – we update it before every winter, so you're always getting the latest and greatest!

All have a rating of ≥ 9.0, 160–210° panoramic windows, 1,000 W heating and a private shower/toilet; prices are €290 in winter and €360 during peak season in March.
🌌 When does the Northern Lights season start and how much does it cost?
The season runs from 20 August to 10 April at latitudes 69–70°N. The maximum KP index is 3–5 in September–October and February–March. Prices: September/October €290, December-March €340-380. Save money in the shoulder season (November, early April) — rates drop by 15% and the chances of seeing a KP-4 remain the same.
🛏 What is included in the price and do I need to bring a sleeping bag?
Included: king-size bed with heated mattress, condensation-free thermal glass, private bathroom, Wi-Fi 10–50 Mbps, breakfast basket. At Lyngen North, a king crab dinner is included in the Aurora Dinner package. Sleeping bags are not necessary, but bring light thermal trousers — the temperature is +18 °C, but the floor is oak.
📍 Where is the probability of seeing the Northern Lights higher and how can you increase it?
The best regions are Lyngen, Alta, and Senja, which are far from city lights and often have a "coastal gap" in the clouds. Book the "Aurora Alert" package — you will receive a text message when the KP index is ≥ 4 and the sky is clear. Follow the forecasts at norsksolen.no (cloud cover) + aurora-forecast.no (KP index). New moon increases contrast; check the dates in advance.
📸 How to take good photos through the glass of an igloo?
Wipe the anti-fog panel with a cloth; turn off the internal light, open the aperture to f/1.8, ISO 1600, exposure 5–8 s, manual focus to infinity. To remove glare, cover the camera with a towel. Lyngen North provides tripods free of charge; in Tamok Valley, they can be rented for 100 NOK/night. Wear fingerless gloves — the touchscreen works.
☁ What to do if the forecast is cloudy?
Choose locations with an "activity package": Husky safari (Tromsø Domes 1,590 NOK), King Crab outing (Kirkenes 1,350 NOK) or Snowmobile (Alta 2,100 NOK). The aurora can "break through" clouds with a KP of 5+, but if not, the programme will brighten up your evening. Many bases offer an "Aurora Guarantee": Lyngen will transfer your night free of charge at 0% visibility if you stay for ≥ 3 nights.
🚌 How to get there without renting a car?
Tromsø Ice Domes: transfer from the centre (90 min, 750 NOK/RT). Lyngen North: Breivikeidet – Svensby ferry + shuttle 350 NOK. Kirkenes Snowhotel: free shuttle from the airport according to the schedule. Senja Aurora Bubbles: bus #360 to Finnsnes + taxi 18 km (550 NOK). Without a car, it is better to choose Tromsø or Kirkenes.
👨👩👧 Can I bring children and pets?
Children over 6 years old are welcome; younger children are available on request (cots are small). Lyngen North and Alta Forest accept children aged 4+, with an extra bed available for €40. Pets are only allowed in the Aurora Borealis Observatory (Senja) — 400 NOK surcharge, bowl included. Please note the quiet hours from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.; crying children or barking dogs may disturb your neighbours.
🎒 What items should you definitely bring with you?
Thermal underwear, tripod, power bank ≥ 20,000 mAh, spare camera battery (cold weather drains batteries), anti-fog wipes, red headlamp, waterproof shoes (snow leads to ice). Bank card — most bases are cash-free. Tripods weighing 1-2 kg — hand luggage.
💰 How to book and save up to 15%?
Book directly: mid-week (Sun–Thu) is 10% cheaper. The "Stay 3 Pay 2" package at Alta is valid from November to December.
