The Science Committee for Food and Environment (VKM) is an independent and interdisciplinary committee whose main task is to assess risks related to food and the environment. The committee works on behalf of the Norwegian Food Safety Authority and the Norwegian Environment Agency, and publishes scientific assessments and reports that contribute to informed decision-making. VKM also participates in European partnerships for risk assessment and provides input to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).
The committee's focus areas include biodiversity, animal health and nutrition. In addition to the assessments and reports, VKM offers webinars for collaboration with research organisations, which promotes knowledge sharing and collaboration across disciplines. VKM develops strategies for its future work, and has revised routines to ensure the quality of its assessments.
