Austrått Idrettslag was founded in 1977 by Steinar Lode and Øyvind Johannesen. The sports club aims to offer sports activities for all ages, and focuses on creating an inclusive environment. Over the years, they have organized several local and national competitions, which helps to promote the joy of sports in the local community.
The sports club offers activities in roller skating and football, and places great emphasis on community and commitment. They involve the local community through the grassroots scheme, which is a scheme that provides support to sports teams from players who register the team as their grassroots recipient. Austrått Idrettslag has a motto that reflects their philosophy: "Most, best and longest possible".
