VAREhuset in Drammen is a second-hand shop that specializes in used appliances. The shop is run by the VARE association, which aims to promote reduced consumption and work for a socially sustainable working life. In addition to selling donated goods, VAREhuset offers a "mini market" on the 2nd floor, where the public can rent space to sell their own things. This provides an opportunity for reuse and sharing of resources.
VAREhuset also has a collaboration with Drammen Municipality through the pilot project Fikseriet, which gives visitors the opportunity to borrow sewing machines, including an overlock machine. To take advantage of this offer, the borrower must be able to operate the sewing machine themselves. The shop focuses on innovative solutions in data processing and offers services such as creating user profiles and customized preferences, as well as tracking users on websites.
