How do you visit Pepperkakebyen in Bergen?

In brief

Pepperkakebyen, Bergen’s gingerbread city, is open from 14 November 2026 to 10 January 2027 at byROMMET, Kong Oscars gate 24–26. Adult admission costs 199 NOK; children have different weekday and weekend conditions. The organiser confirms the season and address. Check holiday opening hours before visiting. Checked 3 November 2026.

What is Pepperkakebyen, and how does it differ from a Christmas market?

It is an exhibition city of gingerbread buildings made by children and adults. Visitors come to look at the miniature creations. The tradition began in 1991; according to the organiser’s history, the exhibition has moved between venues over the years. Checked 3 November 2026.

Plan this visit separately from an outdoor market. Dates and locations are covered in our guide to Christmas markets in Norway. For pepperkaker and other biscuits, read our guide to Norwegian Christmas biscuits. An exhibition ticket does not include food purchases or admission to another event.

Where is the exhibition, and when can you visit?

The address for the 2026/27 season is byROMMET, Kong Oscars gate 24–26, 5017 Bergen. Enter this in your navigation app rather than choosing a former venue from an old photograph. The address is confirmed on Pepperkakebyen’s visit page, checked 3 November 2026.

All times are local. A holiday exception takes precedence over the usual hours for that weekday. To plan 25 December separately, use our guide to what is open on Christmas Day. For 26 December, see our guide to what is open on the second day of Christmas.

Important

Pepperkakebyen is closed on 25 December 2026 and 1 January 2027. A date falling within the season does not mean the exhibition opens that day.

How much are tickets, and who gets free admission?

Choose the day first and identify each visitor’s category. Then compare the total: the same family may pay different amounts on weekdays and weekends. The official ticket conditions were checked on 3 November 2026.

The byVENN price requires a valid coupon in the app; it is not an automatic discount for every resident or tourist. For free admission with Aktivitetskort or Ledsagerbevis, the organiser states a limit of up to two people. Confirm whether your particular document qualifies rather than buying a standard ticket in advance when you may be entitled to free admission. See Pepperkakebyen’s concession conditions, checked 3 November 2026.

Example

An illustrative calculation for two adults and an eight-year-old child, without other concessions: on an ordinary weekday, 199 + 199 + 0 = 398 NOK; at the weekend, 199 + 199 + 49 = 447 NOK. This covers admission in the published categories only, excluding travel and other purchases.

How do you buy the right ticket?

Standard adult, student and weekend child tickets can be bought in advance or at the ticket desk. Concession and free admission categories are arranged at the entrance. An advance ticket does not let you bypass the queue. See Pepperkakebyen’s ticket rules, checked 3 November 2026.

Step 1. Open the official visit page and check your date against the holiday opening hours.

Step 2. Check age categories, student identification and eligibility for concessions on the ticket page.

Step 3. If your category is available in advance, access the shop through the organiser’s link. Arrange concession admission at the entrance with supporting documentation.

Step 4. Save your ticket and double-check the address before leaving. When buying, check the final total and the selected seller’s conditions.

Common mistake

Adult admission starts at 16. The 49 NOK child rate applies to ages 3–15 at weekends. It is not a single price for all children on every day.

Can you visit with a wheelchair or pushchair?

The organiser states that byROMMET accommodates wheelchair users, allows pushchairs and has toilets and baby-changing facilities. This information comes from Pepperkakebyen’s official visitor FAQ, checked 3 November 2026.

If you need specific passage widths, toilet equipment or companion arrangements, describe your requirements to the organiser in advance: [email protected], telephone +47 55 55 39 39. Contact details are listed on the visit page and were checked on 3 November 2026.

A general accessibility statement does not guarantee particular equipment. When visiting with a pushchair, allow time for queuing, changing layers and an unhurried departure.

Tip

If you qualify for free admission or have specific access requirements, clarify the conditions with the organiser before choosing how to obtain your ticket.

Which rules apply to school groups?

Children visiting with a nursery, school or day centre, and accompanying staff, receive free admission. This does not automatically extend to accompanying parents. Other visitors use the standard categories. See the group visit conditions, checked 3 November 2026.

The organiser recommends weekdays for large groups. Group composition and requirements can be discussed through the official contact channels. Free admission does not include a separate promise of a guided tour.

What should you check before leaving?

Checklist

Date and holiday opening hours; the byROMMET address; each visitor’s age and documents; the appropriate admission procedure; ticket or proof of concession; access requirements and the return journey.

General questions about attending events are covered in our events and festivals FAQ. Check arrangements for this exhibition separately from those for other city events.
