How to choose: district first, then table or takeaway
- Choose the district first: centre, west or east.
- Table or takeaway: go by the description on the card, not by the name.
- Several of the places also serve hot Asian food.
- This page is a selection, not a full list.
The groups follow the city's districts. Kvadraturen is the city centre, and the addresses in that group have postcodes 4611 and 4612: there you can either sit down at a table or take the food away. Vågsbygd and Voie lie west of the centre, Lund and Randesund east of it, and there it is mostly a matter of collecting food close to home. Drangsvann, at the far eastern end of the city, is included too.
The district says nothing about the format. Whether a place has seating, takeaway only or both is stated in the description on the card. According to the descriptions (read on 6 October 2026), several of the places in the centre serve food on the premises, while those in the west are set up mainly for takeaway.
Not all of the places are pure sushi restaurants. The page also includes restaurants serving Vietnamese and Thai food that have maki, nigiri and sashimi on the menu, and takeaway places where sushi is sold alongside wok dishes or poké bowls. That helps when not everyone in the party eats raw fish.
This page does not replace a full list. The catalogue category Asian Restaurants & Sushi Bars has more than twenty cards, among them Thai, Indian and Chinese restaurants, and the rest of the catalogue for the city is on the Kristiansand page. Guides on other themes, from pizza to seafood, are in the section on places to eat in Norway.
What to check before you order: collection, delivery and tables
- Takeaway is ordered on the place's website or by phone.
- Delivery: only some of the places offer it.
- Tables: a takeaway place has few seats or none.
- Ask about allergens before you order.
Sushi for collection is usually ordered in advance. Several of the places on this page have their own online ordering, and the link to the website is on the card; otherwise call the number given there. According to one of the descriptions, you can pay in the online shop with Vipps, the Norwegian mobile payment app.
Delivery is not a given. According to the descriptions on the cards, some of the places offer delivery, and one of them delivers through the courier service Wolt. How far they go is decided by the place or the courier service: you will see whether your address is covered when you place the order.
If you want to sit down, look for a mention of eating in on the premises in the description. A takeaway place may have a few seats or none, so do not count on a table there. At a restaurant you ask for a table on the website or by phone.
Allergen information is mandatory in Norway for food served in eating places too: the rules list 14 allergens. With sushi the ones to ask about are often fish, shellfish, soy, sesame and wheat, and ordinary soy sauce contains wheat.
Local context: sushi menus, catering and Sundays
- Sushimeny: a set menu, with the size given as a number of pieces (biter).
- Maki are rolls, nigiri is fish on rice, sashimi is fish without rice.
- Catering: sushi platters for parties and meetings, ordered in advance.
- Sundays: eating places may stay open.
Takeaway sushi is often sold as set menus, with the size given as a number of pieces. According to one of the descriptions, there are both small and large menus, several combinations of pieces and special menus for occasions. For a group, the simplest way is to count pieces per person and choose a menu to match.
Several of the cards mention catering, and that applies to places in all three groups. A sushi platter for a party, a meeting or an event is arranged directly with the place, well before you need it.
On Sundays eating places may stay open: the Norwegian law on public holidays (helligdagsfredloven) requires shops to close, but places that serve food are exempt. More detail is in the article on Sunday opening. Opening hours still differ from place to place, and a place may be closed for a day or two early in the week: see the place's own website for the day you are going.
